Forewarned
Woe to the rebellious children…Isaiah 30:1
We were promised a Wonderful Counselor in Jesus, Isaiah 9. Shame on us for not seeking His counsel. This is the warning of Isaiah, chapter 30:1: Woe to the rebellious children, says the LORD, who take counsel, but not from Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin… This Israel did. Shame on them. And shame on us if we do the same thing.
Sometimes we don’t even seek counsel nor do we make plans. We just go. Then, some of us, and often too many, want God to bless their actions. Or, they want God to bless their plans after the fact. Or, they cry out for God to rescue them, “Help me!” If you get on an elevator and not tell it where you want to go, you go wherever everyone else is going. Get off! Ask God where you should go, and go there.
Don’t be like Israel. Since they didn’t go to God for advice, they walked down to Egypt, Isaiah 30:2. That did not go well. They sought strength in the shadow of Pharaoh, and that was their shame, Verse 3. They added sin to sin.
We have been warned. God has good advice in many places in His Bible. Seek them out; and take His counsel. The world has proven it is unworthy to give advice. The world is upside down. Nothing good can come from their counsel. Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help…who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD! Isaiah 30:1 (in part). As for you, we seek the Lord.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my strength, in whom I will trust. My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18 is our prayer; our testimony; our plan: we will trust God!
