Nothing New

Every spiritual blessing…Ephesians 1:3

Too many people are trying to sell us another new thing. Some improved thing we need. Their sales pitch is “you deserve this…” Do not buy into their lie. The Bible says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ…Ephesians 1:3. “Every” means every, all; nothing new required.

Because the believers in Ephesus were young in their faith, Paul itemizes their blessings. Notice just some of the blessings enjoyed by everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus: becoming born again, having been sealed by the Holy Spirit and more.

Verse 4: chosen to be holy and blameless; Verse 5: predestined to adoption, the redemption of our body, Romans 8:23; Verse 6: accepted by the Beloved, Jesus. In Whom, we have redemption and forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, verse 7.

There is more. God has revealed to us the mystery of His will…that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ…verses 8-10. Verses 11-12: In Him, also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will…that we who first trusted in Christ should be the praise of His glory.

We notice Paul uses the past tense to affirm this is a done deal. The only future event is our gathering together with all those who are also in Christ to be in Christ; to be where Christ is forever. Given the assurance of God’s word do not listen to those who wish to sell you some new thing to make you better. You are in Christ. It does not get better than that. Jesus has given you everything you need. There is nothing new.
