And My reward is with Me…Revelation 22:12
So, what reward is Jesus bringing with Him?
In one sense, His reward is Himself. Paul explains: knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ, Colossians 3:24.
Then what is our inheritance? It is in the kingdom of Christ and God: For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God, Ephesians 5:5. Then the inheritance is for those for whom all those sins (and others) have been forgiven. Even yours.
But there is more. From Ephesians 1:18: that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. In other words, Jesus gets us and we get Him. Such is grace, amen?
We noticed in Revelation 22:12, Jesus said reward not rewards. Every saint gets the same reward. One doesn’t get a larger mansion or bigger crown. Like the parable, every workman gets the same wage regardless of how long they worked, Matthew 20. Like our salvation, our inheritance is a gift. Like salvation, it is irrevocable.
In another sense, our reward and our inheritance are the same. Not only in equality. But in essence. As Paul wrote: you will receive the reward of the inheritance. Our reward is our inheritance. Our inheritance is our reward. So, instead of working for rewards look forward to your inheritance. Jesus is. For He is preparing a place for you in His Father’s mansion. And if He prepares a place for you, He will come and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also, John 14:1-4.
