Walk in the Spirit…Galatians 5:16

“It is all in your head” could be the best way to summarize Friday’s discussion. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.Galatians 5:25. Verse 25 introduces Paul’s conclusion regarding our walk by the flesh or by the Spirit. Verse 16: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. As they are contrary to one another, Verse 17. That was the premise on which we began Friday’s discussion. Friday, we wanted to determine how—how do we walk in the Spirit?

We began with Romans 12:2: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. It is all in our minds! We who are born again must allow God’s Spirit to complete His transformation of our mind—our mind set; how we think. It is the practical application of the great commandment as specified by Jesus, Mark 12:30: You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. Walking in the Spirit begins with loving God with all our mind!

It is a choice. We can either choose to walk in the flesh. Or we can choose to walk in the Spirit. When we continue to think of ourselves as a work in progress, we will choose the old way and walk in our flesh. When we think of ourselves as the finished work of Christ, we will choose the new way and walk in the Spirit. It is a choice we make all day every day.

We choose to not see our identity in the flesh. We choose to see our identity in Christ. This is not simply the power of positive thinking. This is seeing ourselves as we really are—dead to sin, alive in Christ. This is not a mantra we chant. This is loving God with all our being! Then we can love others as the Spirit produces His love through us.
