Now You Know
The LORD knows the way of the righteous
But the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm 1:6
For this reason, we praise God for His grace. Our destination is secured by Jesus. And we pray for the wicked. Their destiny is not good. We are like a tree planted by streams of water yielding fruit, Verse 3. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff driven away by the wind, Verse 4.
For this reason, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous, Verse 5. Chaff is what is left when the grain has been harvested. Chaff has no fruit. You, on the other hand, not only have fruit in your season, but your leaves do not wither. Like a tree in Eden. All that you do prospers, Verse 3c.
For this reason, you are “blessed” Verse 1a. Hebrew scholars suggest Blessed in Psalm 1:1 could read as an exclamation: O the happiness of the person! This is you. Hey, there goes a blessed person. You have been blessed by God with contentment. In plenty or in want, you have learned to be content, pleased, happy. But there is more.
Because of your contentment in God, you DO NOT walk, nor stand, nor sit with the ungodly. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers…Psalm 1:1. This is you. Because your delight is in God, Verse 2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law, he meditates day and night. The word ‘law’ is the Hebrew word ‘torah.’ The torah includes all the instructions of God for life—all His directions for contentment.
For this reason, you think about God’s grace and mercy all day long. Because loving God is keeping His commandments, which fulfills The Law and The Prophets, says Jesus…Matthew 22:36-40. Now you know why you are so uncomfortable in the world of the wicked; sinners who are puffed up by their mockery of all that is holy.
