Answer The Call
The Lord called to Moses…Leviticus 1:1
The LORD called to Moses and spoke with Moses from the tabernacle of meeting saying, Leviticus 1:1.
God called to Moses by name. As God did from the burning bush, Exodus 3:1. As did Jesus with Saul on the road to Damascus, and with Lazarus in front of his tomb. When God calls us by name, it is time to listen.
God called Moses to Himself to teach him. Leviticus is about God’s instructions of worship. Verse 2: Speak to the children of Israel…the following verses include God’s teachings about the meaning of the various sacrifices. Or the various worship ceremonies. Whenever we praise God, we make an offering to Him. Whatever comes out of our represents who we are. From the heart, the mouth speaks. Our words are our act of worship.
Some of the offerings were for atonement. Some were acts of worship. Each of the offerings were to be from the soul—from the heart and without reservation. Each was to make one holy. God is holy. God’s holiness will not tolerate impurity. Any impure thing or person entering His presence would be consumed. Entering God’s presence, The Tabernacle, required holiness.
Most of the offerings were burned. Portions were given to the priests. Portions were given back to the worshipper. Some were offered to God on the altar as a burnt offering. It was purified by fire. Every sacrifice was to be seasoned with salt, Leviticus 2:13.
When God calls us, He calls us to Himself. When we answer His call, He purifies us through the sacrifice of Jesus. We have been made holy by His atonement. We have been seasoned with fire and with salt. We are now invited to enter into the presence of God. Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He consecrated for us…Hebrews 10:18-20. When God calls, answer!
