Living Temple of God

Walk in the light…1 John 1:7

We who walk in the light have fellowship with each other and with Jesus Christ. This is what Christian fellowship is. Fellowship is being in Christ and loving Him and each other. According to John, we are either in the light or in darkness. So, if we say we have fellowship with Jesus, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth, 1 John 1:6.

This is what Jesus taught. I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness, John 12:46. When we came to Jesus, we stepped out of darkness into His wonderful light. The Apostle John explains what this means in his letters. For example, 1 John 1:7: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. This is a spiritual truth.

Fellowship is not conditional. We are not in Christ when we are good but not in Christ when we sin. We are always in Christ. We are always in the light. Our love of each other does not make us in Christ. Being in Christ produces our love for one another. We don’t lose our fellowship with Christ when we sin because the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Sin isn’t the problem.

Our mind set is the problem. When we begin thinking the old way, the way of the flesh, thinking we can step into and out of Christ, we have a problem. A person simply cannot step out of Christ. This is why John explains light and darkness the way he does. For example, He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in darkness until now, Verse 9. He is a liar, verse 4. Because he only says he believes, he does not really believe. Perhaps he was led to believe all he had to do was say he believes to be a believer. This kind of confession leaves God and the blood of Jesus out of the equation.

Real fellowship with Jesus cannot be broken. Because we are joined to Him—in Him. Which does not imply we can’t grieve the Spirit with our disobedience. But grieving the Spirit is not the same as quenching the Spirit. And both are very different from blaspheming the Spirit. We quench the Spirit when we don’t listen to His instructions. We grieve Him when we disobey Him. We will never blaspheme Him. We can’t because we are born again. We are of the light; not of darkness. All we do (or don’t do) is cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God!
