We Do Not Serve Alone

I am with you…Jeremiah 1:19

This is the second time God told Jeremiah He would go with him, Jeremiah 1:8: Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD. God knows our circumstances. God knows where He is leading us. All He asks is that we trust Him. Do not be afraid, I am with you. I will deliver you.

The world expects us to stand alone; to fight alone; to comfort ourselves alone. In fact, the world will often encourage us to do this very thing, “Take your time, gather yourself.” In other words, you are in this by yourself. This is not how God treats us. God says, they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you. Jeremiah 1:19.

But that was God speaking to Jeremiah. Okay, fair enough. God had spoken the same way to Isaac, do not fear, for I am with you, Genesis 26:4. And to Jacob, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go…Genesis 28:15. And to Isaiah, Fear not, for I am with you, Isaiah 41:10. And to Zerubbabel, work, for I am with you, says the LORD of hosts, Haggai 2:4.

Jesus said, Go…I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20. While the world advises us to wait, hang on, not-so-fast; the Lord our God says, Go! I am with you. So, we go. Not alone, but with God. But not just with God. We go together. We are a community of believers who trust in God. Where He leads, we follow. Where He directs, we go. For He said, I am with you.

That is how servants act and think. Jesus said He came to serve, not to be served. We who follow Him do the same. We serve. Servants get up and serve in spite of our personal circumstances. Because we do not serve alone.
