And difficult is the way…Matthew 7:14

Could the way be difficult in part by our own doing?

Jesus says, “Follow Me.”

And we say, “Ok, let me take care of some things first.”

Jesus says, “Just follow Me, tomorrow will take care of itself.”

Jesus says, “What are you reading?”

We answer, “A ministry application form.”

Jesus says, “Just follow Me. You are approved.”

Jesus says, “What are you carrying?”

We say, “My past. I just can’t let go.”

Jesus says, “Take My hand; no, with both hands. Now, you are free to follow Me. I forgave all your sins—all of them. Stop dragging them behind you.”

Jesus says, “Why are you depressed?”

We say, “Because I’m sick and tired of living in a world that  is a cesspool.”

Jesus says, “I know. I’m coming soon to fix that.” “

     How soon?”

     He says, “Soon.”

Jesus says, “Why are you sitting under a tree?”

We say, “Because everything I touch turns to dust.”

Jesus says, “You mean like Nathaniel and Jonah?I have seen this before.

     Just follow Me.”

“Where?”

He answers, “To show you something worth doing.”

Jesus says, “What are you doing?”

We say, “I’m working out my salvation.”

He answers, “That’s not what I meant. You are saved, trust Me.”

Jesus says, “I have a job for you.”

We say, “What kind of job? How hard is it?”

He answers, “Very hard. You need to love God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength, and your neighbor as yourself.”

We reply, “Wow. That’s not hard, that’s impossible.”

He answers, “I will help you.”

Just maybe the narrow way would be less difficult if we just trusted Jesus more. Anticipating our situation Jesus said, I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever. We know Him as the Holy Spirit; our Helper, our Counselor, our Advocate, our constant Companion in this life. With Him, the narrow way is less difficult. When Jesus said He would help us; He meant He would give us His Spirit!
