One-Way
Enter by the narrow gate…Matthew 7:13
For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it, Matthew 7:13-14
Jesus is the gate (door), John 10:7. Jesus is the way, John 14:6. Unfortunately only a few will find life. Most will take the broad way to destruction. We all have a choice: wide gate or narrow gate. Many will make the wrong decision and choose the wide gate. Sad.
While preaching the gospel, Jesus often divided people into two groups. The wise builder and the foolish builder, Matthew 7:24-26. Then on that day, the separation of sheep from the goats, Matthew 25:32:33. It looks like there will be more goats than sheep. Very sad.
Why? Did they choose the wide gate because the narrow way was too difficult? People do difficult things all the time. So maybe not. Did they choose the broad way because they could not find the narrow gate? Well, that is not what they say when asked. So, no.
They chose the broad way because they did not want to humble themselves before God. Like Adam and Eve, they hid. They hid behind their self-righteousness. But unlike Adam and Eve, when they heard God, they refused to answer. So, they deliberately kept silent; and stayed dead in their sins.
But you did not stay quiet. You heard and you answered: “Save me, Lord.” And He did. Now you are on the difficult road to eternal life. With God’s constant help, you are fighting your way against all those on the broad way. It is as if you are going the wrong way on a one-way highway. But you are not going the wrong way; they are. They ignored the sign: One Way Do Not Enter. Now they are coming against you making the narrow way difficult. They said no. You said yes. Now you are alive in Christ. Stay the course. No one comes to the Father except by Jesus. You did. You are following the Good Shepherd, The Way, The Truth, and The Life. You are going the right way!
