Tell your children…Joel 1:3
Tell your children what? Verse 2: Hear this, you elders, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land! Has anything like this happened in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? Tell them what has happened and what will happen. Knowing our history helps us not repeat it. Knowing what sins we left behind helps us how free we really are. Our chains are gone. The world is still in bondage.
Verse 4: What the chewing locust left; the swarming locust has eaten. What the swarming locust left; the crawling locust has eaten. And what the crawling locust has left; the consuming locust has eaten. In other words, the locust has destroyed everything. Sounds like our day. The chewing, swarming, crawling, consuming of this world are destroying everything they touch.
So, what do we do? We teach our children the ways of God, that is what we do. The grace of God is best learned by our children by our testimony of His mercy. We are a living example of faith. We begin at home.
It is a good thing to support missions to the Romanians and the Haitians. But evangelism begins first at home. It is a very good thing to seek out the stranger in need of Christ. But not at the expense of our children. We shall not allow the locust of this world to devour our children’s food for faith. The poor shall always be with us. We feed our children first.
The most needful thing for our country right now is a family faithful to God. The Church of God is the family of God. The family of God lives under our roof: our constant care. Preaching to the unsaved of the world is a rewarding task. More rewarding is our living faith before our children.
May our children hear us tell them of the amazing grace of God. May they see living faith. When we do then let our children tell their children, and their children another generation, Joel 1, verse 3
