Our Lord
He made Pleiades and Orion…Amos 5:9
Job also spoke of these constellations in heaven. He made the Bear, Orion and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south…Job 9:9. This is but one example of God’s power spoken of by Job, God is wise in heart and mighty in strength, Job 9:4a. These are just a few of the revelations of God’s character in the Bible.
Like Job, Amos is reminding the people of earth of who God is and why we should pay close attention to what He says. Another example from Amos 9, verses 13 thru 15: Therefore, the prudent keep silent at that time, for it is an evil time. Seek good and not evil, that you may live. So, the Lord God of hosts will be with you as you have spoken. Hate evil, love good…
Many will ask why. Why, indeed. Verse 15b: Establish justice in the gate. It may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. Judgment is coming! Verse 18: Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! For what good is the day of the LORD to you? It will be darkness and not light. In other words, we should be careful about what we pray for.
All seems lost until we get to Amos, chapter 9, verses 11-15. In his closing prophecy, Amos declares the promise of God for a brighter future: Verse 15: On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down and repair its damages. I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old.
Think about this. The same God who warns of coming destruction speaks of renewal. Why should we believe Him? Because He is our Creator. He is the One who set Pleiades and Orion in their place. Job reveals to us what God had revealed to him in His creation; Job chapter 9, verses 4 thru 9. Then in verse 11: If He goes by me, I do not see Him. If He moves past, I do not perceive Him.
True for Job. But not for us. Jesus has arrived out of the house of David. Jesus allows us to see and perceive; to hear and to understand; to believe and to live. God who made Pleiades and Orion visited you in Christ. And now you are in Him
