Jesus Taught Us To Teach

The disciple is not above his teacher…Luke 6:40

Jesus traveled by foot up and down Israel teaching. He taught in their synagogues, Matthew 4:23. He taught in the temple, Matthew 21:23. He taught in their villages, Mark 6:6; on the hillsides; from a boat; everywhere He went He taught. He is referred to as “Teacher” over and over again.

Jesus taught to teach us to teach. In fact, His last command before He ascended was that we make disciples, teaching them to observe all things He had commanded us, Matthew 28:20. And what were the two greatest commandments He taught us to teach? First, that we love God and Second, that we love one another. We are to be merciful, just as our Father also is merciful, Luke 6:36

Soon after that statement Jesus instructed us: A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher, Luke 6:40. This is why we make disciples (students) teaching them everything Jesus taught. So they can be like our Teacher, Jesus. This is the purpose of training, to be like Jesus.

Such a simple lesson. Anyone could teach it. Teach others to teach so students can become like the Teacher. Even those of the youngest students in our Sunday School can understand this simple lesson. It is good to know about God. Because knowing about God leads to knowing God. Knowing about God leads to knowing how much God loves us and wants us to be like His Son, Jesus. So easy. So simple.
