Jesus taught us to teach, part 2
Astonished at His teaching…Matthew 7:28
Jesus taught with authority, Verse 29. This is why people listened to Jesus. He taught as one having authority, and not as the scribes. This is how students learn. When a teacher teaches with confidence. And when you think about it, this is you. Especially when you talk about the things you know. And you know Jesus.
There are many lessons to be learned in Matthew, chapter seven. Some appear to be difficult. Like Verse 1: “Judge not, that you not be judged.” But when you look at Jesus’ statement in context it becomes less difficult, verse 2: for with the judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. In essence, treat others as you want to be treated. Simple, but not easy. But a lesson every person, especially our children, needs to learn. And who better to teach them than Jesus through you.
Jesus taught using natural illustrations. Most good teachers copy His style. Verse 6: Do not cast pearls before swine. Anyone who knows even a little about pigs and their need to wallow in mud can grasp that lesson. Verse 7: Ask, seek, and knock…great illustration for finding what you lost.
Matthew, chapter 7 has many lessons our young people need to learn. And learning begins at home. And for many children, grandma’s house is home. Anywhere children can feel comfortable can be like home; like Sunday School. There our children can learn about Jesus. The same Jesus they learn about at home. There they can be astonished by His teaching. It is easier to find and walk through a really big door, which may not be the right door. So, listen to your parents.
