Jesus taught us to teach, part 4
My Father gives you the true bread…John 6:21
Jesus taught us about God by teaching us about His Father. That is not to say, Jesus never referred to God in His teachings; He did, and often. But the most revealing aspect about God that Jesus taught is when He referred to God as His Father; actually, “My Father.”
This is how we should teach our children about God. God is the Father of Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus often referred to God as His Father. Perhaps, so should we. In fact, when He taught us to pray, He taught us to pray to Our Father who is in heaven. Not that God is not in heaven, but in the style of Jesus, we teach our children to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus.
Jesus came to direct us to The Father. Jesus sent the Spirit to lead us to The Father. Faith is about our Father who is in heaven. For example, Jesus said, For whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven, Matthew 10:32. This is teaching in the simple truths of Jesus. That is, teaching in the style of Jesus.
This is how we teach our children. Simple, short lessons from the Bible. The words of Jesus are brought alive by reading them out loud to our children. For faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Even among adults, lessons need not be complicated.
