No injustice to judgment…Leviticus 19:35
Jesus brought this idea forward: Why do you look at the speck (chaff) in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank (beam) in your own eye? Matthew 7:3. Moses continues in Leviticus 19, you shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. You shall have honest scales, honest weights, and honest ephah, and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Therefore, you shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them: I am the LORD.
This is what Jesus meant. Do not practice injustice in judgment. Including how you treat others. This truth applies to all our judgments. Moses applies this most to common business practices. God applies this to everything in life. God’s justice is righteous. Our justice should be fair. Treating others as we would be treated, in the least.
This would apply to how we judge ourselves also. For example, Jesus said, do not consider the beam in your eye to be less than the chaff in your brother’s eye. Do not consider your faults to be nothing while you judge your brother’s faults. Do not consider your ounces good deeds to be pounds. Do not consider your brother’s misdeeds to be yards and yours to be mere inches. Have honest scales.
God’s standard is Jesus; not others. It does us no good to compare our behavior with others. God judges by His standard; not ours. God gives grace abundantly. Some of us meet out grace in grains. The world gives high praise to the rich and famous while giving ‘lip-service’ to the poor. God’s people take care of the widows and orphans because they are family.
God’s word is truth. We should not twist God’s word to conform to our current doctrinal view. We should not do injustice in our judgment; especially, with God’s word. A misjudgment in the care of the poor leaves people out in the cold. A misjudgment in the care of Scripture leaves people out, period.
