Peace And Comfort
That blessed hope…Titus 2:13
Jesus said no one knows the date of His return, Matthew 24:36. Jesus said this in His answer to the question: what will be the sign of Your coming, Matthew 24:3. We do not know the day nor the hour, but we do know the signs.
These signs were given for our comfort, not for our fear. These signs were to bring peace, not anxiety. Both peace and comfort are in Christ. So is our blessed hope.
Titus 2, For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Verses 11 thru 14.
These are the words of comfort given by God through His Word for us. Please read those verses again and notice how grace—hope and redemption all are in Jesus Christ.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men…
Jesus, the word became flesh.
Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts…
Teaching us we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age…
Jesus, the word dwelt among us
Teaching us to be looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing
of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us,
that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and
purify for Himself His own special people,
zealous for good works
Instead of looking forward to some date or some sign in the skies, we should be looking for our blessed hope in Christ Jesus, our great God and Savior!
