The Last Trump
The trumpet of the jubilee…Leviticus 25:9
Verse 8: And you shall count seven sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years, and the time of the seven sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years. By doing the math, the Lord made His point; after 49 years you will declare a year of Jubilee, verse 9.
The year of Jubilee was to begin on the Day of Atonement, the tenth day of the seventh month. On that day they were to sound the trumpet. In Hebrew, shofar. Hebrew has two words for trumpet, yobel and shofar; both could refer to a ram’s horn. Although the yobel could also refer to a silver trumpet.
The sound of the trumpet on the Year of Jubilee announced a time of great rejoicing in Israel. As will the sound of the trump in the last days, 1 Corinthians 15:52: In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet will sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. We notice at the last sound of the trumpet, the trump, we will be changed faster than a wink.
When the shofar was sounded in the past God made a great announcement. At the giving of the Torah to the people, Exodus 19:16-19. At the beginning of the sabbatical year of release, Leviticus 25:9. When Israel conquered Jericho, Joshua 6:20. At the coronation of a new king, 1 Kings 34:39. As a warning of impending danger to Israel, Amos 3:6.
We look forward to when the shofar will be heard again. At our resurrection, 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 and 1 Corinthians 15:52. At the coming of our King, Christ Jesus; Matthew 24:29-31 and Revelation 11:15-16. If He comes at the last trump of the Feast of Tabernacles and if the Year of Jubilee is 2023, then listen for the shofar around September 29-30.
Regardless, there is no time to lose in reaching those we love with the gospel of Jesus!
