Our Daily Bread

You shall see…Numbers 11:23

Once in a while we need to be reminded of the power of God. The children of Israel had been complaining again. They had grown tired of eating manna and now wanted meat. So, Moses went to the Lord, and said, The people whom I am among are six hundred thousand men on foot; yet You have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month.’ 22 Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to provide enough for them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to provide enough for them?” Verses 21-22

God heard Moses, and the people. Verse 23Has the LORD’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not. Oops! The people will get meat, verses 16 thru 20: for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you… In other words, be careful for what you pray for.

Numbers 11 is their Acts 2. As the Spirit descended upon the disciples in Jerusalem, as predicted, the Spirit came upon the seventy elders in the wilderness, verses 24 & 25. The Spirit rested upon them, not for an instant but from then on. And they prophesied. They became ecstatic, as they did in Jerusalem. They were thereby gifted by the Spirit to assist Moses, as magistrates to serve as judges in the spirit of governing God’s people.

No, the arm of the Lord is not short. God is able to perform all that He has declared. More so, He brought forward these spiritual gifts into the church. God has promised to supply our needs, not our wants and wishes. When we doubt the promise, we doubt God. This is seen as to despise the LORD who is among you, verse 20.

Even so, the foundation of our faith is not meat, or any other provision from God. Our faith is built on God. Our Father who gave us His Son and His Spirit. We shall not look to what we have as proof of who we are. We shall look to Jesus in whom we stand. Is the arm of God shortened? No. His mercies are new every day. Our daily bread is but a shadow of His grace, not the substance.
