Power of Praise

My lips shall praise You…Psalm 63:3

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. This should be our attitude when we pray. We should begin with giving thanks and praise. Praise should be on our lips. Because God’s love, mercy, and grace is better than life. Face it, without God in our lives we would not have life; not a life worth living, anyway. This is the context of Psalm 63: O God, You are my God. Verse 1.

The apostle Paul brought this forward in Hebrews chapter 13, verse 15: Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. The context of this is evangelism. Verse 13-14: Therefore let us go forth Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Then verse 15, followed by verse 16: but do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Psalm 63, verse 2: So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. More and more people are seeking God by going to church. There are many new faces in churches these days. This is what people do in times of crises. They seek God.

Seeking God is a good thing. Again, we look to the book of Hebrews. Chapter 11, verse 6: But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. More and more people are testing their faith. They are seeking God in His sanctuary—their local church assembly. This is good.

Verse 6 of Hebrews chapter 11 is right between the faith of Enoch, verse 5 and the faith of Noah, verse 7. Again we notice that preparing for the future means looking to the past. Our examples of faith are from history. Faithful people like Abel (verse 4), Enoch (verse 5), Noah (verse 7), Abraham (verse 8), Sarah (verse 11) and the list includes others from our history: Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, etc. Your name could be in the updated list.

Sharing the gospel means going back; all the way to Genesis when necessary. As times get harder and harder, more and more people will be seeking God. When they do—they will find you because you are the temple of the Holy Spirit. You have what they are looking for—more, you have WHO they are looking for. Let them hear your praise of God’s lovingkindness as you enjoy living in His mercy and His grace.
