Simple Not Easy
The Son has life…1 John 5:12
He who has the Son has life; everlasting life, verse 11. Life is that simple. Those who believe in the name of the Son of God have life; those who don’t believe do not have life. People are either in or they are out. You are either in Christ or not. You are in!
Verse 13: These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.What more do people want?
Why do people hope they are saved? Either you believe or you do not. Why do people guess they are saved? Either you believe or you do not. Why do people want some sign of assurance they are saved? Either you have the Spirit of God or you don’t. Those who believe have the Spirit, those who don’t believe do not. The assurance of our salvation is really that simple.
To the thief on the cross Jesus said, “Today you will see Me in paradise.” Why? Because it was finished. The great exchange had been completed. Jesus gave him His righteousness in exchange for his sinfulness. Done! Finished! The moment you said to God “I believe” the great exchange was completed. Finished!
For whatever reason people search for something else, something more. More of God; more of Jesus, more of the Spirit. As if God didn’t mean what Jesus said, “It is finished.” For whatever reason, some people think we have to climb upon our cross and die for our sins or some other act of faith to prove to God, we really mean it, this time. It is as though they really do not think God knows. It is as though John didn’t really mean what he wrote: those who believe in the name of the Son of God have eternal life; period.
So, when walking in the Spirit seems difficult, remember in Whom you believe. Get your eyes off of yourself and on God. Your salvation is based upon Who God is; not on who you are. Walking by faith is simple. No one said it would be easy.
