Yes, or No
That they all may be one…John 17:21
This all important prayer came from our Lord Jesus to His Father on the night He was betrayed. What a friend we have in Jesus! That on the night He was to be betrayed, He prayed for us. John 17:20: I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one…
Now for the shocker of Jesus’ prayer, verse 21: that they all may be one as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in us…Add to that the fact we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and we have an unbreakable bond—a threefold cord, if you will allow—in Christ.
You are in Christ Jesus. Jesus is in the Father. The Spirit is in you. No wonder nothing can separate you from the love of God! This happened the instant you were baptized into Christ Jesus. For as many as you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ, Galatians 3:27. This is the baptism of Jesus; not of man!
Your understanding of this may take time. Your appreciation of this may take years. But your placement into Jesus was in an instant. The instant God accepted your confession of faith. At that moment, in that instant, you became one with God in Christ sealed by the Spirit. Done!
It is strange how we argue with this fact. Maybe it is not that strange after all. We are still in our old bodies. We are still subject to the temptations of the flesh. We are still struggling with who we were. Therefore, we still argue with the Bible. We too often think ‘nothing has changed.’ Why?
Because we believe what we see, what we hear, what we think and say more than what the Bible says! So, let us start with step one: you have been baptized in Christ, therefore, you have put on Christ. Re-read John, chapter 17 and ask yourself one question: Did God the Father hear and answer Jesus’ prayer?
