Jesus said,
This is My blood of the new covenant…Matthew 26:28
The original covenant was ratified with the blood of animals, Exodus 19:8. This new covenant is sealed by the blood of Jesus, Matthew 26:28. This makes the new covenant a better covenant: for if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offer Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:13-14.
And for this reason, He is the Mediator of the new covenant, Hebrews 9:15. Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel, Hebrews 2:24. Moses was the mediator of the first covenant, Exodus 19:24.
The original covenant was a promise of God to Israel, Exodus 19. God appointed Aaron as High Priest, Exodus 28. The new covenant is a promise of God to all who believe through Jesus, His Son, Hebrews 9:11: But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is not of this creation.
The new covenant is everlasting, Hebrews 13:20-21: Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will… This new covenant makes the original covenant obsolete: “In that He says, “a new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away, Hebrews 8:13.
In the original covenant, God appointed priests to stand between the people and God. In the new covenant, God made all people priests so they can enter into the holy place with God, Hebrews 10:19: Therefore, brethren, having the boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus. Even more, we enter into peace with God through Jesus our Sabbath-rest, Hebrews 4:9-11. Verse 10: For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
