Jesus Said,

I will come and heal him…Matthew 8:7

This was Jesus’ response to a request of a Roman centurion. We notice what Jesus did not say, “No. You are a dirty Gentile and a Roman, I will not heal your dying servant.” No, Jesus did not say anything of the sort. Even though many in the Jewish community of His day would have responded thusly, Jesus did not.

We also notice what Jesus had just done. He had just healed a leper by touching him. Again, Jesus challenges the teachings of His day. If a clean person touches an unclean person, a leper, the clean person becomes unclean. Jesus reverses this. Jesus touches the unclean person and he becomes clean. Then He instructs the clean person to obey the commandment of Moses. Even though many of His day would have insisted on obedience to the law of Moses in the first place and would have sent the leper on his way. Jesus did not.

We notice what Jesus says next regarding the centurion. “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” Verse 10. This is a remarkable statement. Even among the people of Israel this Gentile, Roman, shows more faith. Even among those who should have faith, this centurion has more faith. Even among the clean, this leper has more faith. For the leper said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”  Verse 2. This is what faith sounds like.

We notice what Jesus says next regarding the sons of the kingdom, And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Verses 11 & 12. Jesus does not mince words. To the centurion He says, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” Verse 13. Jesus responses to faith, even your faith.

You know this. They should have known this. What Jesus did was predicted by the prophets, Verse 17: that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, which is a quote from Isaiah 53:4.Please do not let the words of Jesus just pass you by. He says what He means and means what He says. Your faith has made you well. This is God’s will for you, And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:40. This is grace. You believe without seeing Him. Your faith has given you, life everlasting
