Power of Everlasting Life
According to the power of an endless life…Hebrews 7:16
Jesus is our high priest according to the order of Melchizedek, Hebrews 7:17. This is the new covenant. Verse 18: For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is a bring of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Verse 22: by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.
Of Melchizedek, because under the law, the priest was to be from the tribe of Levi, through Aaron. Verse 14: For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. Verse 15: Jesus, who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lore erected, and not man. Hebrews 8:1-2.
This is the point. This is the gospel of Christ. This is the power of endless life; salvation. What the former system could not do, for it was not established to do so, is completed by God in Christ Jesus. For if the first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second, 8:7.
For this reason, we look to Jesus, not to Aaron as our high priest. We rely upon the blood of Jesus, and not the blood of animal sacrifices. The law did what it was intended to do. The sacrifices did what they were supposed to do. But…Hebrews 7:12: For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law. We do not throw the law on the trash heap; the law is not garbage. The law is holy and good: Therefore, the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good, Romans 7:12.We are a part of a new tabernacle, But Christ came as High Priest of good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption—an endless life! Hebrews 9:11-12
