It Is Finished
After He offered one sacrifice for sins forever…He sat down; Hebrews 10:12
Verse 15: for by one offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified. There is no need for any further sacrifices. It is finished.
For some reason people are not satisfied with His one offering for sin. They want to do more. Perhaps they want to show their gratitude to Jesus by doing something. This is understandable, but unnecessary. Perhaps they have been taught they must complete some kind of work. This is wrong. Wrong doctrine always destroys what it touches.
Verse 12 in context. Hebrews, chapter 10 explains how the law is a shadow of good things to come, verse 1. The law demanded sacrifices, which the priests performed every day, verse 11. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But, this Man (Jesus), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God…For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified, Verses 11-14.
Those who think they must do something spectacular to show their gratitude to Jesus should stop. Their actions are in fact an affront to what Jesus did. Those who teach we must do good works to prove we are saved should stop. Their teachings are offensive to Jesus’ finished work on the cross.
After Jesus offered Himself for our sins forever, He sat down at the right hand of God. This signified our salvation was completed. Completed is the meaning of the word perfected. Completed means there is nothing left undone. It is complete. This is the purpose of preaching the gospel. The goal of teaching proper doctrine. That we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus, Colossians 1:28. False doctrine corrupts. True doctrine completes. You are complete!
