Passover
It is the LORD’s Passover…Exodus 12:11
Passover is all about our salvation. The original Passover was God’s rescue of His people from Egypt. Jesus, our Passover, is God’s rescue of us from sin. In Verse 11, it is the Lord’s Passover. In Verse 21, they were instructed to “kill the Passover”, the lamb taken for Passover. In Verse 27, it is the sacrifice of the LORD’s Passover. God Himself came to save us from our sins.
Passover is the first of the seven feasts of the Lord. It is a real holiday on the Jewish calendar. The original was a real historical event. Passover is real. Everything surrounding Passover symbolizes our freedom in Christ.
Jesus is the Passover Lamb. Egypt represents our slavery to sin. The journey through the wilderness represents our life in the wicked world. The passing through the Red Sea represents our baptism into Christ. The land of promise represents our new destination—The New Jerusalem. As God was with them in the wilderness, He is with us today. Or, should we say, we are with Him. For we are in Him and He is in us.
When the word reached Pharoah, he chased after God’s people to kill them. When Satan heard about your salvation, he sought to kill you, 1 Peter 5:8: be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour. Nothing has changed over these thousands of years. The Lord of lords still protects us as He did them!
In the wilderness, the Lord guided in a pillar of cloud and of fire. Today He guides us by His indwelling Spirit. The Spirit of the living God lives in us, His living temple. He guides us as we travel through this troubled world. He has promised to never leave nor forsake us. For He is our Passover!
