Prayer Freedom

And this I pray…Philippians 1:9

…that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God, Philippians 9, 10 & 11.

As we learn to pray, we pray more and more for others. Paul’s letters are full of his prayers for the people to whom he is writing. This is one of the many blessings of knowing who we are in Christ. When we are secure in Jesus, we no longer need to spend our time praying for forgiveness. We are free to pray for others. 

This is not to say it is wrong to pray for yourself. It is OK. Paul even asked people to pray for him and his team. But the more we realize who we are in Christ the more we think like Him: forgive them Father, for they do not know what they are doing. This is our prayer also.

Many, many people are hurting. They are in pain—physical pain and emotional pain and spiritual pain. They need our prayerful support. They need us praying like Paul: that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment that you may approve the things that are excellent.

Or what Paul prayed for the church in Ephesus:  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. Ephesians 1:17 thru 21

Oh, that someone would pray that for us…and that we would pray this for them!
