God’s Will
Desires all men to be saved…1 Timothy 2:4
The Bible says God desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. How can we motivate people to desire what God desires for them?
The answer could be in the context of 1 Timothy 2: verse 1: Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayer, intercession, and giving of thanks be made for all men. Clearly, we start by praying for them AND giving thanks for them.
Perhaps they don’t really understand that they must be saved. Therefore, they need to come to the knowledge of truth. How can they hear the truth if we don’t tell them? They can’t.
The truth according to 1 Timothy 2: 6: there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time… which brings us back to prayer, verse 8: I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. Wow, that sounds like praying from a holy mind!
When we pray, we should also look forward to God using us as part of His answer. That is, we might get the opportunity to share the gospel. And more, witness the new birth!
The gospel is simple. Sinners are spiritually dead. Those who sin died. The cost of sin is death. Jesus died for their sins. Jesus paid the price of their sins with His death. Jesus rose from the grave to give them new life.
Perhaps people do not desire what God desires for them because they do not think…they don’t think they need saving, “I’m fine.” They don’t need to be found, “I’m not lost!” That is the lie. That is not the truth. They need to come to the knowledge of the truth.
We need to pray that God will help us to help them change their mind. Once they believe, God will renew their mind. Then they will leave the lies of this world behind.
