A New Beginning
Forgiven you all trespasses…Colossians 2:13
This is the significance of our baptism in Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead, Colossians 2:12. We died to our old self. We have been raised to enjoy our new self. The old self is dead. We have been raised with Jesus through faith in the working of God, who raised Jesus from the dead. This is who we are now.
But there is more. Having forgiven us of all our trespasses God has wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross, Colossians 2:13 & 14. That which God nailed to the cross was our own record of our sins. The word translated ‘handwriting’ literally means something written by our own hand. It is your personal record of wrong. God took it from you. You do not own it anymore!
God took our record of our sins and nailed it to the cross of Jesus. God canceled the debt. God took away forever that which was against us; that which was contrary to us; that which was keeping us from being truly free. God wiped it out, having nailed it to the cross.
Which brings us back to verses 9 & 10 of Colossians chapter 2: For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. You are complete in Jesus. Your conscience is clear. Your sins are forgiven. The only record of your sins is in your memory. So, let them go. Forget about who you were and enjoy who you are.
