We are not doing right. 2 Kings 2:9

When the four lepers who sat at the gate decided to surrender to the enemy and live entered their camp, they found the soldiers gone and their bounty left behind. They did what most people would do. They went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them. Then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and hid it. Then they said, we are not doing right… Then they went back and told the king’s men what they had found. The king and his men were skeptical.

Like many who hear the good news of redemption, they become skeptical. This is too good to be true. Yet, it is true.

The skeptic walks past his Bible daily. But he refuses to read it. When he does, he claims he cannot understand it. Therefore, his unbelief continues. In other words, like the four lepers, they do nothing. Then one day they ask each other, why are we sitting here until we die? Verse 3.  These four did something. Perhaps it was not the best of decisions, surrender to the enemy, but they did something. Their action was rewarded with food and drink. With their stomachs full, they took the gold, silver, and clothes. Then they repented, what we are doing is not right.

They remembered the law of God: you shall rejoice in every good thing which the LORD your God has given to you…Deuteronomy 26:11a. This is our testimony to the world. We do in fact rejoice in every good thing God has given us—especially His grace, His mercy, and His forgiveness. To keep all of His blessings to ourselves is to not hear the voice of our conscience: we are not doing what is right.
