Finding Love

Write in on their hearts…Jeremiah 31:33

What law did God write on our hearts? Could it be that we love God and keep His commandments, 1 John 5:2? But, what commandments? That we love God and others, 1 John 5:2 and Matthew 22:37: You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Or, did God etch on our heart the truth: His thoughts are of peace and hope in our future, Jeremiah 29:12

Perhaps this is the love people are looking for in all the wrong places? Perhaps they are only thinking they are looking for the meaning of life when in reality they are only looking to be loved—really loved.

This is not new. Religions have been born out of the desire of people to find the essence of existence—love. Lives have been wasted looking for love. Only those who find real love are saved. The others, well, they just keep searching; never finding. Maybe those seeking for their gender identity are looking for the same illusive love? If so, they are searching in all the wrong places.

We who have found Jesus have found real love. The Apostle John says: If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? This was written by one who not only saw Jesus, but walked with Him daily. Though you have not seen Jesus, you know He walks with you because He is in you and you in Him. There is no closer walk than that!

Finding real love is not easy. Maybe this is why God promised to write in on our heart—our new heart. This says the LORD: “I will put My law in their minds, and write in on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people, Jeremiah 31:33.

Perhaps this is why we refer to those who have been hurt by love “brokenhearted.” They have not yet been regenerated and their old heart is damaged. They need a new heart. A new heart, on which God has written His law to love. In doing so, many will find what they are searching for and their lives will turn from wasted days into glorious praise. Love is in Christ—not out there!
