Grace Upon Grace

Voice of thanksgiving…Jonah 2:9

Verse 7: When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD…

It is not strange when we are in our most dire spot, we remember God. There in desperation we pray. And our prayer went up to Him, verse 7b, to His holy temple

From the belly of the fish, Jonah’s prayer was heard in heaven. So, the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land, verse 10. Likewise, God heard our plea from the depth of our darkness and we stepped into the light. Because salvation is of the LORD, Verse 9.

When by faith, we come to the end of ourselves, we remember WHO God is. He is our Redeemer. All that we are and ever hope to become are gifts from our Father in heaven. Like Jonah, we cry out to our God: Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and You heard my voice, Verse 1.

There is no circumstance that may overwhelm us that God does not hear our prayers. It may seem hopeless, but with God all things are possible. Verse 5: the waters surrounded me, even to my soul. The deep closed around me. Weeds were wrapped around my head. To many of us, these words sound so very similar. We feel as though we are sinking down to the moorings of the mountains, verse 6. Sinking to the very bottom of earth and sea. Far away from heaven. There is no light. Only our memory of God.

When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD. And my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple, verse 7. There, in His holy place, God heard the voice of thanksgiving. Mercy belongs to the Lord, which He gives without limit. Grace upon grace, John 1:16
