God Our Strength
The LORD God is my strength…Habakkuk 3:19
Having seen through the eyes of a prophet, Habakkuk resolves his fear of the future. Chapter 3, Verse 2: O LORD, I have heard Your speech and was afraid. The next several lines of his prophecy reveal the great power of God’s coming judgment. God does not change. His ways are everlasting, Verse 6. To the faithful follower of Jesus these words are words of comfort; not stress.
God has declared the end from the beginning. What He spoke to the serpent in Genesis will come to pass in Revelation. The last enemy of all creation will be delivered into the fires of hell. Until then we seek the source of our strength, the Lord our God.
Until then we suffer at the hands of those whose ways are not everlasting; but ever changing. The ways of man vary with the whims of sinful passions. Their sin nature rules their mind and body. They are not you. You are not them. Your old nature died at your new birth. How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death, Romans 6:2.
Do not let your heart be troubled. You believe in God and in Jesus. The Lord is your strength. As the temple of His Holy Spirit, you are always under God’s care. There is nowhere you can go that He is not there. There is no temptation you may encounter that He is not with you. What God has begun in you He will finish.
God’s ways are everlasting. As is the life He has given you; eternal life. God is forever gracious and merciful. His actions are always just and righteous. His nature does not change. His love for you shall not waver. For God is your strength.
