Three Arks
Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. Genesis 6:14.
She took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, Exodus 2:3
And they shall make an ark of acacia wood, and overlay it with pure gold, inside and out, Exodus 25:10-11
Three arks in the Books of Moses (Pentateuch). The materials of each ark are described in the Bible, gopherwood, bulrushes, and acacia wood. Each was covered with a coating, pitch, pitch, and gold. The dimensions of two are given in cubits, width, length, and height.
Noah’s ark carried eight humans to safety. Moses’ ark carried one baby to safety. The Ark of Testimony was carried for safety. The Bible does not give all the construction details of either of these three arks. Noah was told how big then “you shall put a window and a door, with lower, second, and third decks.” Either Noah knew how to build or God gave him instructions not recorded in Scripture.
God gave Moses great details regarding the Ark of the Covenant. Along with the dimensions and the gold, he was told how it was to be covered and carried. Additionally, he was told to put the broken tablets of stone in the ark. Hebrews 9:4 records other items in the Ark of Testimony: a golden pot of manna, Aaron’s rod that budded and the tablets of the covenant.
Each of the three arks are symbols of salvation. Eight souls were saved through water, 1 Peter 3:20. Baby Moses was saved through water, Exodus 2:5. Annually, the sins of Israel were forgiven through blood on the cover of the Ark of Covenant, the Mercy Seat, Leviticus 16:13.
History recorded in the Bible is rich with symbolism of the patience of God, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism…1 Peter 3:20b-21a.
Herein is the gospel: God is still patient. The door is still open. Get onboard while there is still time.
