Rejoicing in Christ
They kept Passover…Joshua 5:10
After the children of Israel entered the land, they celebrated Passover at its appointed time, the 14th day of the month at twilight, verse 10. Verse 11: And they ate the produce of the land on the day after Passover and that year, Verse 12.
What a privilege it is to enter into the rest of our Lord; to enjoy fully all His provisions. According to the Bible, on that day the manna ceased after they had eaten the produce of the land, Verse 12. The hand of God had been with them in the wilderness and now in the land. When all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel, Joshua 5, verse 1
When those who walk by faith those who oppose them lose their will to fight. While it is good to eat the bread from heaven, it is better to enjoy the Bread of Life, Jesus. It is one thing to cross a river. It is altogether different to have that river suddenly dry up at the foot of the priest. This is God at work.
The work of the Lord is not done. For Joshua there is more country to be subdued. For this duty God dispatched the Commander of the LORD’s army, Verses 14 and 15. For us there are more people to be reached with the gospel. For this duty, God has given us His Holy Spirit.
Soon we will cross into the perfect rest of His love, His perfect peace, His presence. Until then we enjoy the great joy of serving God by loving others. For this is what those in Christ do; they keep the Passover. They keep the Passover by rejoicing about who they are in Christ.
