Jesus Gives Victory
When speaking of Jesus, Matthew quotes Isaiah. Isaiah spoke often about the coming Christ. Much of what we know about Jesus comes from the Law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms, Luke 24:44. Indicating how the Jews divided the Scriptures into three parts: the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings, the TaNaK.
In other words, we have the resources necessary to understand. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—your faith. 1 John 5:4.
Is this you? Are you an overcomer? Are you victorious? Better yet, who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:5. Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God? Then you have overcome the world. You have been given a certain victory over the prince of this world.
Just go back one page: You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4.
Read that again: you are in Jesus and Jesus is in you. The very One of whom God spoke through Isaiah: Behold, My Servant, My Elect One, in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles, Isaiah 42:1. He sends forth justice to victory, Verse 3.
Those who overcome are NOT those who have more faith, or have more courage, or have more strength. Those who overcome, have Jesus. You are not kept in Christ because you pray more, study more, love more. You are kept by Jesus who is in you.
The problem is simple. Too many people think all people are children of God. That is NOT what the Bible says. Those who believe in Jesus are born of God. Those who are born of God have victory. Victory even over death, death is swallowed up in victory, Isaiah 25:8. Jesus has given us victory; it is a gift.
