Reason for the Season

For this cause, I have come into the world…John 18:37

This Jesus said while standing before Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea during the days of Jesus. Pilate represents many who reject Jesus. He ignored the advice of his wife who counseled him to not involve himself with Jesus. He rejected the advice of his own conscience. He didn’t recognize the truth when He was standing right in front of him, what is truth? Matthew 18:38.

Verse 37: Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘Are you a king then?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause (reason) I was born, and for this cause (reason) I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.  Verse 38 Pilate said to Him, ‘What is truth?

The reason Jesus came was to bring us truth: He is the King of our lives. Every miraculous aspect of His arrival speaks to this truth. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God…Philippians 2:5-6a

He is our Lord, Savior, and Friend. Paul referred to this very event in his first letter to Timothy, 1 Timothy 6:13. That Jesus is the only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, Verse 15. Paul affirms to the Church who Jesus is. All who hear and respond to His voice He grants citizenship into His kingdom. His rule begins in our hearts. His kingdom is truth. Pilate, who was governor of Judea, stood before the King of kings refusing His rule. Pilate rejected truth. You say rightly that I am a king, said Jesus. For this reason, Jesus came to bear witness to The Truth. For this reason, we celebrate His birth. So, let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…He humbled Himself, even unto death.
