You Are His Temple

Filled him with the Spirit of God…Exodus 31:3
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

In Exodus, Moses records how the tabernacle was built. He begins by revealing how God gave His Spirit to men and women to enhance their abilities. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, Exodus 31:3. Not just Bezalel, but others, who Moses names.

God has put His Spirit in you. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19. Knowledge is knowing all your sins have been forgiven. Wisdom is living like it. Having the gift of the Holy Spirit empowers you to do so. Oh, the depth of the riches of both the wisdom and knowledge of God! Romans 11:33a

Did having the Spirit of God keep Moses and others from sinning? No. In fact, one purpose for the tabernacle was a place to make atonement for sin. Each sacrifice covered sin. Until Jesus, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 This means your sin. All of your sins. Knowledge is knowing what Jesus did for us. Wisdom is living like it.

Knowledge is knowing God’s forgiveness is ever flowing, Matthew 18:22. Peter asked, how often shall I forgive my brother who sinned against me? Seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Such is God’s forgiveness! Wisdom is living in His graciousness. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Romans 6:1-2. Therein lies the difference between knowledge and wisdom.

Now we have reason to read the rest of Romans, chapter 6. Paul explains who we are in Christ. Knowledge is knowing we should re-read Romans 6. Wisdom is actually doing it. Because, now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God (His temple), you have your fruit (your actions) to holiness, and the end, everlasting life, Romans 6:22. Meanwhile, do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap, Galatians 6:7. God has forgiven all our sins. He has not promised freedom from circumstances of sin.

Knowledge is knowing you are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Wisdom is living like it!
