God’s Great Reset

The day of vengeance of our God…Isaiah 61:2

We are well aware of Isaiah 61, verses 1 and 2A. This is the passage Jesus quotes in His hometown synagogue in Nazareth, Luke 4:18-19. There we notice Jesus stops mid-sentence. Jesus ended with “to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. The scroll of Isaiah said, “to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God.” We have come to understand the prophecy of Isaiah 61 has to do with both, the first and second coming of Jesus.

In His first coming, Jesus came to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. In His second coming Jesus will proclaim the day of vengeance of our God. Isaiah’s reference to the acceptable year of the Lord could be regarding the year of Jubilee. Many believe Jesus will return during the year of Jubilee. Which only comes around every 50 years. It is the year all things are returned to normal—God’s great reset. It will be a time of mixed emotions. For the redeemed a time of great joy. For the rest, a time to mourn and hopefully receive comfort.

But there is more. It will be a time when Jesus will rebuild what was destroyed, Verse 4. Actually, Jesus will equip us to rebuild. He will provide us the power to change ashes into beauty, Verse 3. He will give us new garments (bodies) of righteousness, Verse 3. He will plant us in His new garden to the praise and glory of God, Verse 3. Then we will rebuild the old ruins, Verse 4.

But we will not do this alone. Strangers and foreigners will help us, Verse 5. We shall serve them by serving the LORD as priests. As priests we shall eat from the bounty of the foreigners, the Gentiles, Verse 6. It will be like the days of the tabernacle and the temple. The priests of God will be supplied from the generosity of those who come to worship God with their tithes and offerings. The shame of our past will be replaced by a double honor with everlasting joy, Verse 7.

Then Isaiah returns to speak on behalf of the LORD. For I, the LORD, love justice…Verses 8 thru 10. The bridegroom prepares Himself for His bride, Verse 10. Isaiah then announces the great reset planned by God Himself, Verse 11: For as the earth brings forth its bud, as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations. Amen!
