Power In the Name

No other name…Acts 4:12

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, preached Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, Acts 4:8 & 12. He had been performing miracles in the name of Jesus. Now, he is in trouble. In his defense he says, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, who God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands before you whole, Acts 4:10. Many of Jesus’ disciples were doing miracles in His name.

There is power in the name of Jesus. Jesus said, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me and I in Him. John 10:38. The power to save comes from The Father through The Son confirmed by The Spirit. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you, John 14:26. They, the Father, Son, and Spirit are in this together. There is power in the name.

We know from the Bible, power in the name of God is from His character. God said so. Now the LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORDThe LORD, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…Exodus 34:5 thru 7. Jesus said, know and believe that the Father is in Me and I in Him. The character of God is in the name of Jesus.

For this reason, there is salvation in no other name. Peter preached the gospel while on trial for doing good in the name of Jesus. Peter said, and we repeat, by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, who God raised from the dead…simple. Saying “I believe in Jesus” must include the understanding of who He is. He is the ONE whom God raised from the dead. If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. This is the power of God for salvation!
