Where We Belong

He has reconciled…Colossians 1:21

The separation of mankind from God which took place in the Garden has been corrected in Christ. For if when we were enemies were reconciled to God through the death of His son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Romans 5:10. This is the gospel. Reconciled to God by the death of Jesus; justified by God through His resurrection.

Even King David spoke of mankind’s battle against God, Psalm 10:3-4: For the wicked boasts in his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the LORD. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts. It appears the great flood did little to alter the pride of people. So, if people will not seek after God, then God will seek after people. For God is love.

Sin separates people from God. The biblical history record proves this. Zechariah 1:4: Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.” But they did not hear nor heed Me, Says the LORD. The result was exile from the land of promise. This is a shadow of the coming judgment. Those who refuse reconciliation will receive the ultimate exile—the lake of fire.

As it was in the Garden so it is in Israel: God initiated reconciliation. It was God who came to Adam and Eve. They were hiding make-shift clothing. It was Jesus who came to seek and save the lost. The lost were hiding behind their self-made righteousness. This is the gospel. God coming in Christ to redeem the slaves of sin.

We, who were enemies, are now friends of God; co-heirs of His Son; recipients of every spiritual blessing, and ambassadors of the ministry of reconciliation, 2 Corinthians 5:20. All because we have been reconciled to God, and much more, we have become a new creation in Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Reconciliation is what God did and is still doing. And more, God in His infinite grace has invited us to join Him in preaching the good news: Be reconciled to God!
