Jesus, Our Sabbath

The LORD said to my Lord…Psalm 110:1

The LORD said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’” The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! Psalm 110, verses 1 and 2. Jesus brought these words upon Himself, “Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.” Luke 22:69. This is where Stephen saw him, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” Acts 7:56.

Given the nature of God it is not strange that the Son who was sitting, stood when one of His was being executed for his faith. Given the will of God to save the lost, it is not strange that the Son did not stop the killing of Stephen who said, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Verse 59

This is important because we are in Christ. This is important because we are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Romans 3:24. Because the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 6:23. This is important because there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ, Romans 8:1. Because the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death, Romans 8:2. And the list goes on; not only in Romans but in each of Paul’s letters to the churches!

Knowing not only who we are—new creations—but where we are—in Christ allows us to be who we are! Being who we are begins with thinking differently. Again, we turn to the Apostle Paul for our understanding. This time we turn to Colossians, chapter 3, verses 1 thru 4:

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God, verse 1.

Set your mind on things above, not on things on earth, verse 2.

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God, verse 3.

When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory, verse 4

As always there is more: the rest of Colossians chapter 3 contains wisdom to live this life here and now as we wait for His appearance. You have not been left alone! For your Lord was told by The LORD to sit, while all His enemies are subdued…

Enjoy your Sabbath rest in Christ Jesus!
