Lead Us, Jesus
Christ, who is our life…Colossians 3:4
As pilgrims in this wilderness of darkness, we are led by the Light. More than light; He is our life. More than our life in this life, He is our promise of our resurrected life: When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory, Colossians 3:4. This promise is immeasurably profitable in our wilderness journey.
Consider this, the same voice which commanded Lazarus to come forth from the grave, called you from your sinful past. For this reason, we seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God, Verse 1. We set our minds on things above, not on things on earth, Verse 2, where our wilderness is. For we have died to our past and our life is hidden with Christ in God, Verse 3. When Christ appears, we will come with Him, Verse 4 and Revelation 20:6.
From this foundation, Paul provides our wilderness survival instructions, Verses 5 thru 17. We are to put off the things from below, the flesh, Verses 5 thru 11. And put on the things from above, from the Spirit, Verses 12 thru 17.
Wilderness survival depends upon our dependence upon Jesus. Jesus has His role; we have our role. He leads, we follow. Our ability to follow rests upon our ability to follow His instructions: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord, Verse 16. Well, that doe not sound too hard—singing isn’t that painful. But there is more, verse 17: And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Lead on, King Jesus!
