Living Debt Free, Part 4
Christ has made us free…Galatians 5:1
And do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage, verse 1. Paul draws from the wilderness experience of Israel. Moses had led them out of bondage to Pharaoh in Egypt to Mt. Sinai. There they received their instructions on how to enjoy their freedom. They were not free to do whatever they wanted. They were now free to serve God as their divine Master. Therefore, we are to stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, verse 1.
While in Egypt they served Pharaoh. They were not free to serve God. While in sin, we served our own desires—our flesh. Back then we were not free to serve God. We were in bondage to sin. But now we are free. We are free to put off the flesh (the old man) and put on the spirit (the new man), Ephesians 4:22 thru 24. First, we put off the old man, then we put on the new man.
We can do this because we have been set free from the old man. We have been born again into a new creation. We have received the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, Titus 3:5-6. This renewal was not a partial cleansing. It was thorough. We were completely transformed at our core—in our spirit by His Spirit.
Now we have the power to not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. We have been set free. We can now truly live a debt-free life.
